Modern Marketing for Tire Retailers

Modern Marketing for Tire Retailers

When you have a flat in a snowstorm on the side of the road, it seems there are never any companies in the area that sell tires.  However, if you own a tire company you actually know competition is everywhere.  From huge companies like Wal-Mart to the Firestones, Tire Discounters, and your neighborhood tire store, competition is everywhere.  Pretty much every body shop sells tires now, too.

Take Columbus, Ohio for example. The roads in Columbus are notorious for destroying tires much faster than they are estimated to survive. In fact, it is one of the few places where residents are familiar with a phenomenon called “Death Shake” which occurs when the bands on the tire actually break to a point so that every small bump causes the entire car to shake. In the greater Columbus, Ohio area, over 190 companies compete to sell tires. The competition is fierce and great marketing has become a necessity for these shops to stay alive. It is no longer good enough to have the best prices if nobody can find the business. The top companies have excelled because of heavy investment in digital marketing.

20 Years ago a business just had to add their business to the phone book and customers would find it. This is why there are so many businesses are named “AAA industry;” it was the easiest way to get to the top of the list in the phone book. The Internet is the new phone book and Google is the new YellowPages. Unlike the phone book however, all the ads are the same size and people don’t notice them any more. This is where organic search engine optimization (SEO) comes in. The easiest way to understand SEO is to think of it like changing your name to AAA tires in the old days. The good news is that now you don’t have to change your business name to get to the top of the results. The bad news is that you do have to find a great SEO company to get you there.

What do you really need?  Just like a buying a set of low profile run flats, it is easy to get carried away and spend too much money on digital marketing. Right now there are companies selling Apps, Videos, mobile sites, landing pages, map listings, pay per click, Facebook advertising and Youtube Ads. With so many options it is easy to get overwhelmed and not take any action. The real question is what do you actually need and the simple answer is SEO. Just like discussed earlier, SEO is like getting to the top of the phone book listings, just in the new place people are looking. Do yourself a favor and look on Google for a SEO Agency in your city and contact a couple of them. Once you find one you feel good about working with give them a try and see what a difference it can make to your bottom line.
